Keynote: Richard Sherman

Join the Washington Student Association and Central Washington University as we welcome Seattle Seahawk, Super Bowl Champion, and founder of Blanket Coverage Richard Sherman as our featured keynote speaker to the 2017 Student of Color Summit! After a brief introduction by Richard students will get the chance to submit questions and hear from Richard's experience growing up in California and his journey that led him to the Seattle Seahawks.

 

Blanket Coverage, the Richard Sherman Family Foundation, was formed in 2013 by Richard Sherman to provide students in low-income communities with school supplies and clothing so they can more adequately achieve their goals.

 

 

Featured Keynote Speakers

Dominique Christina

Dominique holds five national poetry slam titles in the three years she competed, including the 2014 & 2012 Women of the World Slam Champion and 2011 National Poetry Slam Champion. Her work is greatly influenced by her family's legacy in the Civil Rights Movement and by the idea that worlds make worlds. Her poetry collections are: The Bones, The Breaking, The Balm: A Colored Girl's Hymnal, published by Penmanship Books, and They Are All Me, published by Swimming With Elephants Publishing. 

Lydia Brown

Lydia Brown (sometimes known as Autistic Hoya) is an activist and writer whose work focuses on violence against multiply-marginalized disabled people, especially in the contexts of caregiver violence, hate crimes, police brutality, and prisoner abuse. Lydia is president and co-founder of the Washington Metro Disabled Students Collective, which seeks to unite students with disabilities in advocating for access, equity, and inclusion in higher education

Philip “Sharp Skills” Jacobs

Philip “Sharp Skills” Jacobs’ keynote and workshop: Be The Change You Want to See! is an informative, engaging, humorous, and heartfelt discussion on how emerging leaders can provide sought out solutions that our world currently needs. As a hip-hop artist, speaker, author, and businessman, Jacobs gives the rallying cry for how, more than ever, we need diverse perspectives and experiences in order to change the negative narrative our country has developed over the last several centuries. 

KC and Kristeen Johnson

KC and Kristeen Johnson are pioneers when it comes to leadership development. Having over 20 years experience in coaching, teaching, and leading students to a better future. They are advocates for student leadership development and rights for high school and college. KC, is the Head football Coach for the Adna Pirates and Kristeen is an Assistant High School Principal for Centralia High School. KC’s keynote is Inspire the One, To Ignite the Rest. His message will encourage students to expand their thought process by following the eight essentials of leadership. Kristeens workshop involves hands on leadership development that helps identifies students leadership traits, strength, and weakness. Together, they are a power team that is motivated to give you the tools that is necessary to lead with confidence at your college
